Mrs.Abele's Home Page

Hi! I am Mrs. Barb Abele, 7th and 8th grade communications instructor!  I am also the keyboarding instructor for eighth grade as well as the middle school speech coach.

A little about me.  I am a graduate of Lake Mills High School, Waldorf College and Iowa State University.  Taking graduate level classes about new teaching methods or using the computer in the classroom are examples of my life-long learning.

Family is a very important part of my life!  Brian, my husband, and I live on a farm west of Lake Mills.  We have two daughters.  Allison is married to Bob and they have a daughter, Kenlie.  Sarah is married to Nick. Both of my daughters are teachers:  Allison teaches special education classes for Lake Mills lower elementary students while Sarah teaches fifth grade at Pella Community Schools, Pella, Iowa.

My hobbies and interests include flower gardening, growing houseplants, reading fiction books and playing Solitaire.  I really enjoy watching college football. My favorite team is the Iowa State Cyclones.

This video shows what people who lived during the Dust Bowl experienced.  As you view this video, try to actually "be" a person who lived in the southern plains states during the 1930's.  What are you physically feeling?  What do you see?  What do you hear? How does this affect your daily lives?  How would you be reacting to days and days and days of dust, dust, dust and heat, heat, heat?
